Ambassadors Cottage
The very first Citra building was constructed in Pretoria, in the garden of the Swiss Ambassador to South Africa. As the first chapter in the Citra story, the cottage is a physical demonstration of how our building system can change lives.
Built in just three weeks without the use of steel, concrete or timber, this Citra prototype showcases the sustainability and strength of our building method, and demonstrates how integrated renewable energy technology and thermal insulation can combine to make our homes self-sufficient structures.
Curved frameless glass was tailored to fit the curve of the walls and were inserted without window frames – a notable innovation in the building industry. Thin-film photovoltaic sheeting follows the curve of the roof and provides energy for this off-grid garden cottage.
